My laptop laser isn't reading the disks. Any help would be greatly appreciated!?

Hello, I'm sure you've all heard this before but I dropped my laptop about a month ago (woe is me!). The tray is a little broken yet can more or less be easily slid back into the laptop. Today, after putting a DVD in (it hasn't been used since it was dropped), my laptop wouldn't read it and it kept making this weird noise. I ume that it has the same problem that old CD players get, like when the device holding the laser can't move back and forth anymore, thus making you unable to listen to music. Anyway, I was wondering if that is the problem and if there is a way to fix it myself or take it in to repair without it being too expensive? I'm willing to replace the whole tray if that is possible. The rest of my laptop works great.
