I want to back up a G4 lent to me, as i want to run an anti virus programme. exactly how do i do it?

i too am computer illiterate. (oldie). all i know is that its an iBook G4. cant tell u the capacity as i dont know where to look? and dont know how to do the backing up. all info gratefully received. TS
